PM Shehbaz Set for Three-Nation Visit Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to embark on a three-nation visit as Pakistan steps up diplomatic efforts in response to evolving tensions in the Middle East.

The visit, initially planned as a trip to Saudi Arabia, has been expanded to include Qatar and Turkiye. The tour will focus on high-level consultations with regional leadership on pressing diplomatic and security developments, Geo News reported citing sources.

PM Shehbaz will begin his visit in Riyadh, where he is scheduled to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Discussions are expected to cover key bilateral issues as well as broader regional developments.

The agenda will include consultations on the ongoing situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the potential next round of talks between the United States and Iran.

The leaders are also expected to explore ways to further strengthen Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations, with an emphasis on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

Pakistan has taken on a prominent diplomatic role in recent weeks, facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran in Islamabad. The talks marked the first direct engagement between the two sides in more than a decade and the most significant since the Iranian Revolution.

Although the negotiations did not result in a formal agreement, they were seen as an important step toward de-escalation following weeks of conflict across the Gulf region.

The situation remains fragile, particularly after the United States imposed a maritime blockade on Iranian ports, raising concerns about the durability of the ceasefire.
