Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday issued key directives to curb tax evasion, undocumented sales, and price hikes in the sugar sector.
In a notification issued today, the premier instructed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and Intelligence Bureau (IB) to launch joint operations.
“Ensure action against tax evasion and price manipulation in sugar sales,” he directed.

With the crushing season beginning, the Prime Minister ordered a 100% recovery of General Sales Tax (GST) from mills and dealers. He also announced the installation of cameras in sugar mills.
“This will prevent hoarding and stabilize prices,” he said.
The premier warned of strict legal action against sugar mill owners involved in tax evasion and hoarding.
“Monitor production and storage through cameras. Ensure sales tax payment,” the prime minister emphasized.

He made it clear that any increase in sugar prices would not be tolerated while directing tough action against the sugar betting mafia.
PM Shehbaz instructed similar measures for other sectors, including steel, cigarettes, cement, and beverages.
