PM Shehbaz Meets UN Secretary General on UNGA Sidelines

New York (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Wednesday.

“Had a warm and cordial conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on sidelines of #UNGA79 in New York,” the premier wrote on X (formerly Twitter.)

PM Shehbaz congratulated Antonio Guterres on convening the Summit of the Future and hoped it would bridge financing gaps for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate goals in developing nations.

“We discussed the need for urgent action to resolve the Jammu & Kashmir Dispute; called for an immediate end to Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza and Lebanon; and highlighted the need to combat Islamophobia,” he added.

PM Shehbaz is on a five-day official visit to the US to attend the 79th UNGA session. On the sidelines of the summit, the premier is scheduled to hold multiple bilateral meetings.

Earlier in the day, PM Shehbaz met with the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including political, economic, and defense cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the enduring friendly relations between Pakistan and Kuwait, expressing Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening these ties.
