New York (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday met with Ms Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also accompanied the premier.
During the meeting, the two dignitaries discussed the urgent need to mobilize adaptation financing for climate change, said an official X channel of the Government of Pakistan.
“The IMF Managing Director expressed the Fund’s support for Pakistan’s efforts and emphasized the importance of maintaining macroeconomic stability and promoting inclusive and sustainable growth,” it added.

PM Shehbaz thanked Kristalina for her support for Pakistan in successfully securing an IMF package worth $7 billion for the next 37 months.
The prime minister highlighted the government’s commitment to implement structural reforms and promote private sector development.
The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation between the government of Pakistan and the global lender to promote economic stability and growth.

Earlier, PM Shehbaz also met with World Bank President Ajaypal Singh Banga and stressed exploring innovative financing solutions for Pakistan’s development projects, including water management, energy, and human development.
During the meeting, the premier apprised the WB President of the government’s steps, involving policy, administrative and organizational reforms, to realize the economy’s full potential and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
PM Shehbaz added that the government had also introduced reforms in the Energy, Finance and Revenue sectors as the country was looking to enhance support from the World Bank for the country’s revitalized economic reforms agenda.
