Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Indonesia, particularly in trade, defense, and strategic cooperation.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Indonesian Defense Minister Lieutenant General (Retd.) Syafrie Samsudin, who called on him in Islamabad.
The two sides discussed expanding collaboration across various sectors, especially in defense production and economic partnerships, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Describing Pakistan and Indonesia as “time-tested friends,” the prime minister said the bond between the two countries is rooted in shared religious, cultural, and historical values, and both have supported each other on key issues at international forums.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while meeting Indonesia’s Defense Minister, recalled his brief but warm exchange with President Prabowo Subianto during the recent G-8 summit in Cairo.
He asked that his personal regards and best wishes be passed on to the Indonesian leader.
The two sides talked about building on the friendly ties between Pakistan and Indonesia.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan is keen to work more closely with Indonesia, especially in areas that offer mutual economic benefits. Investment, trade, and joint projects were discussed as possible areas to explore.
They also reviewed the status of current defense cooperation. Both agreed that the pace of progress on certain projects needs to be picked up.

Minister Syafrie Samsudin shared a message of goodwill from President Subianto and said Indonesia values its relationship with Pakistan.
He noted that Jakarta is interested in expanding defense ties, particularly in production and technology, and is open to new proposals for working together.
