PM Shehbaz Hails Gaza Peace Deal as ‘Historic Opportunity’

Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday hailed the Gaza peace agreement between Israel and Hamas as a “historic opportunity” to secure lasting peace in the Middle East, while commending the leadership of US President Donald Trump and the mediation efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye.

“The announcement of an agreement that will bring an end to the genocide in Gaza is a historic opportunity to secure lasting peace in the Middle East,” the prime minister wrote on X. “President Trump’s leadership throughout the process of dialogue and negotiations reflects his unwavering commitment to world peace.”

The prime minister also praised the “resolute and wise” leadership of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye for their continuous efforts in facilitating the breakthrough.

“Above all,” he added, “we must pay tribute to the Palestinian people, who have endured unimaginable suffering, something the world must ensure is never repeated.”

Expressing deep concern over recent provocations at Masjid Al Aqsa, Prime Minister Shehbaz urged the international community to hold “occupiers and illegal settlers” accountable and to prevent any actions that could undermine the peace process.

“The world must not allow provocations that threaten to derail the tireless efforts made by President Trump and others to reduce tensions and pave the way for enduring peace,” he emphasized.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s principled stance, the prime minister said the country would continue to work closely with regional and international partners to ensure peace, security, and dignity for the Palestinian people in line with UN resolutions and their legitimate aspirations.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a peace plan, which includes the imminent release of hostages and a withdrawal of Israeli troops to mutually agreed positions.

“All parties will be treated fairly. This is a great day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, surrounding nations, and the United States of America,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, thanking the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye for helping make the “historic and unprecedented event” possible.
