PM Shehbaz Receives Guard of Honour at Austrian Chancellery

Vienna (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was accorded a guard of honour upon his arrival at the Austrian Chancellery in Vienna, marking a key engagement during his two-day official visit to Austria.

The prime minister was received by Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, with whom he is scheduled to hold bilateral and delegation-level talks aimed at further strengthening Pakistan-Austria relations.

The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, and economic development, as well as expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

PM Shehbaz is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch.

The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Austria and marks the first trip by a Pakistani prime minister to Vienna in over three decades. The last such visit was undertaken by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in 1992.

Later in the day, the prime minister is set to address the Pakistan-Austria Business Forum, organized by the Austrian Economic Chamber, where discussions are expected to center on expanding bilateral trade and investment opportunities.

He will also participate in a United Nations special event titled “Sustainable Development: The Path to Global Peace and Prosperity,” underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and sustainable growth.

During his stay, PM Shehbaz is scheduled to meet senior officials of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization to discuss cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy, counter-narcotics efforts, crime prevention, and sustainable industrial development.

The Foreign Office said the visit aims to deepen bilateral ties and reaffirm Pakistan’s shared commitment with Austria to dialogue, multilateralism, and adherence to the UN Charter.
