Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday extended her felicitations to Dr Harini Amarasuriya over his historic win in Sri Lanka’s general elections and assuming office as the country’s premier.
“Congratulations to Honorable Dr Harini Amarasuriya on assuming office as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka,” the premier wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He wished her all the success and expressed confidence that the multi-faceted cooperation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will grow during her tenure.
The felicitation comes hours after Dr Harini was sworn in as the new Sri Lankan prime minister on Tuesday.
She also took oath as the minister of Justice, Education, Labour, Industries, Science and Technology, Health and Investments, according to local media reports.
On Monday, Anura Kumara Dissanayake had taken oath as the ninth executive president of the country.
