Dakar, 24 February 2022 (TDI): Senegal inaugurated 50,000 seater Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, a new modern city 30 Kilometers away from Dakar. Senegal’s President, Macky Sall inaugurated a multi-purpose event.
Senegal authorities have lighted the stadium with beautiful colors at the inauguration ceremony. The stadium has been named after the former Senegal President, Abdoulaye Wade.
Likewise, a large number of Senegalese, government officials, and several Heads of state attended the inauguration ceremony. Head of States includes Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Rwanda President Paul Kagame.
Likewise, Liberia President George Weah and Gambia President Barrow also attended the opening ceremony. Moreover, Senegal also invited famous football players all across the African continent.
Furthermore, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Patrice Moptsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), also attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President Macky Sall said, “It is in this beautiful den that our valiant lions will celebrate their conquest of Africa and the world”.

Likewise, President added that the naming of the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium was a “tribute to the multidimensional, intellectual, pan-Africanist politician”.
He also reiterated that the stadium is a gift to the Senegal youth. Furthermore, President Macky Sall and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan shared some friendly kicks on the ground.
Abdoulaye Wade Stadium
The purpose of the stadium is to prepare for Summer Youth Olympics in 2026. Moreover, the stadium’s seating capacity is fifty thousand, and it has a conference room.
Also, it has two training rooms as well as a national museum. Correspondingly, the Stadium has the ability to accommodate football, rugby, along athletics games. Turkey Summa construction company has built the stadium with 238 million euros.
