London, 16 January 2024 (TDI): During their visit to the United Kingdom, members of a Pakistan Senate delegation held a meeting with Stephen Twigg, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), in London.
They discuss matters of mutual interest, with a focus on strengthening ties and synergy for parliamentary and democratic enhancement. The forthcoming general and Senate elections in Pakistan were highlighted, presenting an opportune moment for the CPA to resume its prior initiatives, including post-election seminars and workshops for newly-elected parliamentarians.
The Senate delegation highlighted the potential for increased collaboration by urging the CPA to establish a regional office in Pakistan.
Both parties conveyed their commitment to strengthening collaboration between the CPA and the Pakistani Parliament, with a specific focus on the Senate. The collaboration seeks to encourage a deeper understanding of parliamentary practices and democratic principles.
Belgian Parliamentary Delegation Visits Pakistan
By exclusive invitation from the government, a Belgian parliamentary delegation led by Allessia Clots, senator and chairperson of the Pakistan-Belgium Parliamentary Friendship Group, will be visiting Pakistan from January 16 to 21.
The visit would serve as a tool to strengthen ties between the two nations and further strengthen their parliamentary cooperation. As stated by the National Assembly,
Moreover, there will be an exploration of opportunities for collaboration and partnership in the realm of trade and business.
Besides meeting Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf, the delegation would also hold meetings with the Senate chairman, convener of the parliamentary task force on SDGs, and chairperson of the Women Parliamentary Caucus.
The delegation would call on the governor of Punjab in Lahore besides visiting a Belgian company, Texpak, in Lahore.
Later, the delegation would visit Karachi, where it would meet the chief minister of Sindh.

Senator Zuberi Meets IOM Delegation
Senator Engr. Rukhsana Zuberi held a meeting with the delegation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at the Parliament House in Islamabad on January 15, 2024.
The aim was to discuss issues and policies concerning the overseas Pakistani community and human resource development, and the involvement of the IOM indicates a focus on migration-related matters.
