Secretary Blinken hosts Jordanian King in Washington DC

Washington DC, 14 February 2024 (TDI): The US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken hosts Jordanian King Abdullah II in Washington DC to discuss regional challenges and commitment to stability.

The US Secretary of State wrote, “I met with King Abdullah II today in Washington to express gratitude for the close partnership between our two nations.

I thank him for his leadership amid ongoing regional challenges and underscored US commitment to furthering regional peace and stability” he added.

Furthermore, both leaders expressed appreciation for the long-standing partnership between the US and Jordan by acknowledging the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

Moreover, they emphasized the importance of the US-Jordan partnership as a pillar of stability in the Middle East. The Secretary thanked King Abdullah II for his continued efforts to bring critical humanitarian aid to Gaza. They discussed ways to expedite the flow of additional aid to Gaza from Jordan.

Moreover, the Secretary and King Abdullah reiterated the objective of enduring peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike. The US underscored its commitment to an independent Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel.

In addition, as the Holy month of Ramadhan is just around the corner, the US Secretary underlined the need to preserve the historic status quo. This includes Jerusalem’s Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount. Along with, recognizing Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s special role in the Muslim Holy Shrines in Jerusalem.

The Jordanian King in Washington said the situation is already very unbearable for over a million people.” He further said, “We cannot stand by and let this continue and need a lasting ceasefire.”

Reportedly, according to the King, the potential threat of Palestinian displacement beyond the borders of Gaza and the West Bank is extremely concerning and cannot be allowed.
