Boao (TDI): The Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Nurlan Yermekbayev, took part in various sessions of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), which is taking place from March 25 to 28 in Hainan Province, China.
This year’s theme for Boao Forum is, “Building the Future of Asia in an Era of Change.”
The Secretary General attended the plenary session of the Forum, which was opened by a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council of China – Ding Xuexiang.
He also took part in the panel discussion titled “Maintaining Stability in Global Supply Chains: The Role of Interconnectedness” and a roundtable on the topic “On the Path to the Future of Regional Integration: Openness and Interconnectedness.”
During the discussion dedicated to the synergy of regional mechanisms, Nurlan Yermekbayev spoke about the work of the Organization for the Development of Cooperation with the United Nations and other partner international associations, sharing common goals in the interests of building peace, stability, security, and trust.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening connections between the UN and such trans-regional structures as the SCO, which are well-informed about the situation “on the ground.”
The event included meetings of the Secretary-General with heads of executive bodies of several regional organizations, heads of diplomatic missions, and representatives of international businesses.

During the trip to Hainan province, Nurlan Yermekbayev also got acquainted with the activities of the local pilot zone for international medical tourism.
The Boao Forum for Asia is an annual conference dedicated to issues of globalization, strengthening regional cooperation, promoting free trade, and discussing broad international problems. The People’s Republic of China has been hosting the Forum since 2001.
Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also traveled to China to attend this year’s Boao Forum. He took part in an elaborate talk on Globalization, tilted: “Inclusive Globalization That Benefits All – Pathways and Actions.”
