Kunming (TDI): The 10th Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member States was held in Kunming, China, today under the chairmanship of Han Jun, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
In his greeting at the opening ceremony, the head of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, Wang Youbo, emphasized the role of agriculture in ensuring the sustainable development of the SCO countries.
The delegates had a thorough exchange of views on improving agricultural policy, rural development, cooperation in poverty reduction, trade and economic cooperation, and scientific and technological exchanges.
At the event, SCO Deputy Secretary General Sohail Khan noted that the Organization’s member states consistently advocate strengthening cooperation and diversifying its areas with focus on innovation, resource conservation and the establishment of exchanges in the field of agricultural science.
Following the Meeting, a Joint Statement was adopted. The document is aimed at further strengthening mutually beneficial ties in the field of agriculture, promoting trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation, and ensuring food security.
In addition, the program of the meeting included a Dialogue on agricultural policy with the participation of representatives of the SCO dialogue partner countries – Egypt, Cambodia and Myanmar.
