Afghanistan was hit by a severe earthquake on June 22, 2022, which left men, women, and children homeless and many dead.

As a result of this, the Paktika province of Afghanistan was the hardest hit area and was heavily affected.

The Paktika province recorded a 5.9 magnitude earthquake. In light of this, the earthquake killed about 155 children and injured almost 1500 people.

In addition, the earthquake left 362,000 children and adults in crucial need of water, food, shelter, healthcare centers, and sanitation services.

Currently, the Afghanistan region is still experiencing vibrations and aftershocks from the earthquake.

Save the Children director in Afghanistan, Chris Nyamandi, expressed concern over the affected families as a result of the earthquake in Afghanistan.

The country director noted that the situation in Afghanistan is disturbing. The earthquake has left Afghan people with nothing, and they have lost everything they own.

Save the Children Afghanistan director, Chris Nyamandi, added that families are sleeping outside due to fear of the collapse of the house. Homes, and animals have been destroyed by the earthquake.

Prior to the earthquake, Afghanistan was already in a dire situation with human and food security challenges taking course.

The country’s director added that the earthquake in Afghanistan has added fuel to the already existing emergency in Afghanistan.

Save the Children humanitarian assistance

Save the Children has started using the workforce and resources from humanitarian programs. This move will have a positive instant effect if funding is not restored.

Save the Children has called on governments and leaders to respond urgently and provide economic support for the recovery of the community.

Furthermore, Save the Children underlined that the current situation in Afghanistan requires new funding from the NGOs.

Moreover, Save the Children has sent teams to Paktika to help people. The organization has provided people with building materials, food, water, and medical care.

These teams are also giving families emergency cash grants. Save the Children’s main goal is to protect children. Thus, Save the Children is working to determine and fulfill the Afghan children’s needs who are in a terrible nightmare.
