Islamabad (TDI): The High Commission of Rwanda in Pakistan will mark Kwibohora 31—the country’s 31st Liberation Day—on Friday, July 4, in Islamabad, in what will be the first formal celebration since the Rwandan Embassy’s inauguration in the country last year.
The event commemorates Rwanda’s liberation on July 4, 1994, which ended the Genocide against the Tutsi. It is seen as a turning point in Rwanda’s history, symbolising national recovery, reconciliation, and transformation. This year’s theme reflects Rwanda’s continued commitment to inclusive governance, peace, and sustainable development.
The High Commission said the event will bring together a broad cross-section of guests, including senior Pakistani officials, foreign diplomats, business leaders, media representatives, and members of the Rwandan diaspora. The gathering is expected to highlight not just the country’s historical progress, but also its expanding diplomatic and economic engagements globally.
Rwanda’s envoy to Pakistan, High Commissioner Harerimana Fatou, underscored the growing ties between the two countries, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, education, health, and defense cooperation. She reaffirmed Rwanda’s interest in working closely with Pakistan to further deepen bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
“This year’s Kwibohora marks not only Rwanda’s resilience and progress but also our intent to foster meaningful cooperation with Pakistan and strengthen friendship across all sectors,” the High Commissioner said.
The celebration in Islamabad signals Rwanda’s broader diplomatic outreach in South Asia and its intent to forge lasting relationships based on mutual respect and shared development goals.
