Russian President spoke to his Belarusian Counterpart

Moscow, 5 November 2021 (TDI): Russian President, Vladimir Putin had a telephonic conversation with the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. Both Presidents talked after the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State. The meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State was held via video conference.

Both Presidents exchanged their views on the outcome of the Supreme State Council meeting. They praised the decisions adopted by the meeting as having strategic importance for promoting integration processes. Both ensured their full support in all matters of mutual interest. Presidents reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas.

Russia-Belarus Relations

The strategic partnership between Belarus and Russia is based on the geographic location, close historic and cultural links. Russia is a key trade partner and a major export market for Belarusian manufactures.

In 2020, the mutual trade between both states amounted to $ 29.5 billion, with exports to Russia reaching $ 13.1 billion and imports from Russia $ 16.4 billion. Belarus and Russia are working on various projects to ensure peaceful and democratic development and to establish a single economic and customs area. Both states have also agreed to ensure sustainable economic development, to pursue the agreed foreign, defense, and social policies, and to ensure security and fight against crime.
