Russian President Speaks with Armenian PM over Telephone

Moscow, 24 August 2024 (TDI):  Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Putin reaffirmed Russia’s unwavering commitment to facilitating a peaceful resolution between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This conversation comes shortly after President Putin’s recent official visit to Azerbaijan.

Discussion on Bilateral Relations and Regional Context

During the conversation held on August 23, President Putin shared his insights and observations from his state visit to Baku, where he held detailed discussions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Putin briefed the Armenian PM about his impressions of his official visit to Azerbaijan. The telephonic conversation between President Putin and Prime Minister Pashinyan focused on various dimensions of the Armenia-Russia bilateral relationship, as well as the broader regional context.

Russia’s Support for Peace Process and Regional Connectivity

Russian President assured the Armenian PM that he would extend his support in making a peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia. During the conversation, he reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the process of delimitation and demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In addition, he assured unblocking transport and logistical ties in the region which are vital for enhancing regional connectivity and economic cooperation.

In response, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed his gratitude to President Putin for Russia’s ongoing efforts and support. Furthermore, the two leaders agreed to meet in person at an upcoming mutually convenient occasion. They also planned to further discuss issues related to the Armenia-Russia bilateral agenda during the upcoming meeting.

Finally, they highlighted the positive aspects of bilateral trade and economic ties. Both leaders underscored the importance of continued collaboration in various sectors, which remains a cornerstone of their partnership.
