Islamabad (TDI): Russia has declared 2025 as the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, paying tribute to its military personnel across different eras.
Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad to mark Defender of the Fatherland Day, Colonel Vadim Fenchenko, Defence Attche of Russia in Pakistan, highlighted the importance of honoring those defended the nation, both in history and current conflicts.
Fenchenko said that this holiday is a symbol of respect for the history of Russia and its heroes.
“Namely those ordinary people who showed courage. Without thinking, they stood up to defend the Fatherland when it was necessary,” he said.
Fenchenko added that the President of Russia Vladimir Putin declared 2025 the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.

This year will be a tribute to the military’ feat of all who fought for the country in different historical eras, as well as to the current heroes – participants in the special military operation, he maintained.
“The theme of the year reflects the priorities of modern Russia, such as patriotism, continuity of generations and respect for the defenders of the Motherland at all times. 2025 in Russia is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the fight against Nazism at the international level.”

He further said that this year is a reminder of the importance of historical memory and the enduring value of peace, which our defenders of the country protect with their courage and dedication.
It is significant that the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland has replaced the Year of the Family in 2024, and this is no coincidence, he said.
“This emphasizes the deep connection between family values and heroic service to the Fatherland.”
The celebrations in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory and the 2025 celebration of the Defender of the Fatherland are not just large-scale events and ceremonial occasions, Fenchenko maintained.
“They are a manifestation of deep national self-awareness, a rethinking of historical heritage and strengthening of ties between generations.”
We are talking not only about military exploits, but also about the spirit of self-sacrifice, courage, loyalty to the oath and love for the Fatherland, which are passed down from generation to generation, he said.
Now the Russian troops are heroically fighting the neo-Nazism that has taken root in Ukraine, protecting Russian citizens in their historical lands, and are fighting courageously heroically, he Fenchenko added.
“I would like to say the goals of the Special Military Operation will be achieved. Victory will be with us.”
