Moscow, 3 February 2022 (TDI): Russian Federation has approved voluntary contributions for one of the Projects of UNECE. It is a technical assistance project titled “Comparative analysis of technical regulations on European inland waterways to improve the efficiency and security of the internal waterways in the country one transport in the UNEEC region”.
In particular, Russia will collaborate to increase the sustainability and safety of navigation of inland water transport. The project is under the supervision of the Executive Committee of the European Economic Commission of United Nations. Besides, the project will cost $242,3000.
Along these lines, the implementation period of the project will be from March 2022 to February 2024. To clarify, the purpose of the project is to ensure technical assistance for the integration of routes between Reykjavik, Danube, and other waterways of the UNECE area.
Furthermore, the project is focused to develop domestic water transport. In addition, it will furnish the consolidated approach along with the creation of a regulatory and legal base.
This regulatory base will be responsible for the mutual recognition of the documents for ships. It will also analyze the recommendations to remove the obstacles in the context of free shipping.
Regarding technical support, the project is focused on the analysis of regulatory and technical rules. But, the project is also dependent on constructive collaboration with all parties. It will improve the sailing conditions for the inland water transport of Europe.
In the field of international development, Russian Federation gives significant importance to the efficient and sustainable projects of UNECE. Thus, it will continue to assist the concerned countries by the State Policy of the Russian Federation.
UNECE: A Brief Overview
UNECE is one of the five regional commissions of the UN and was established in 1947. It is administered by ECOSOC. The purpose of this commission is to re-build post-war Europe through strengthening the economic relations of European countries.
It has also achieved significant acclaim on the international platform due to the efforts made in the pre and post-cold-war eras. Therefore, UNECE is the platform where almost fifty-six countries are contributing towards economic development.
The commission is more focused on fields of economics, statistics, environment, transport, trade, habitat, timber, and sustainable energy. Thereafter, it provides a regional framework for norms and conventions. Its experts are particularly required in South-East Europe and CIS countries.
