Russia Calls Israeli Attack on Qatar a 'Flagrant Violation'

Moscow (TDI): The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong statement, on Wednesday, condemning Israel’s airstrikes on the Qatar’s capital city, calling it a “flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter.”

“Russia considers this incident a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter, an encroachment on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent state, and a step leading to further escalation and destabilisation of the situation in the Middle East,” the statement read.

It noted that all sides should refrain from actions that will further worsen the Israel-Palestine conflict, calling the strikes “unacceptable.”

The MFA described the strikes as an “assault on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent state,” warning that such actions only deepen tensions and risk further destabilizing an already volatile region.

“The methods that Israel adopts to deal with its adversaries deserve the strongest condemnation,” the ministry said, asserting that the missile strike undermines years of diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing war in Gaza.

The similar tone and language resonated when Russia made a statement at the emergency session of the UN Security Council, on Thursday.

“We call on West Jerusalem to refrain from reckless acts of aggression which generate spiraling violence in the Middle East region,” Moscow’s representative said, while also simultaneously expressing solidarity with the people and leadership of Qatar.

Another condemnation by Russia surfaced during the 8th Joint Russia-GCC Ministerial Meeting on Thursday, which was also attended by Qatar’s Foreign Minister.

GCC Foreign Ministers and Russia’s Sergey Lavrov jointly stressed that Israel must be effectively deterred with “a clear and firm international position.”
