Moscow (TDI): Russia has expressed concern over recent hostilities along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, urging both countries to exercise restraint and resolve issues through diplomatic means.
In a statement released on October 13, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said “We call on Kabul and Islamabad to exercise restraint and forbearance, and to address any disagreements through political and diplomatic means.”
“Kabul and Islamabad have provided differing interpretations of the nature of the clashes and the reasons behind the escalation,” the statement also said.

Most recent reports from the ground suggest that fresh clashes broke out along the border after a brief lull, as Pakistan’s forces carried out retaliatory strikes against Afghan Taliban and TTP militants in the Kurram sector.
During an intense hour-long exchange at Shamshad Post, Pakistan neutralized a fourth tank, while additional positions were hit in Khost province’s Nargasar Post and Turkmanzai Top, where two more tanks were destroyed along with their crews.
The renewed fighting follows an earlier confrontation on the night of October 10–11, when Afghan Taliban units launched an unprovoked attack on Pakistani border posts.
Statement from Russian spokesperson also acknowledged deaths of personnel on both sides as earlier clashes unfolded.

“Exchanges of airstrikes and gunfire have effectively spread across the entire border area, including the Pashtun tribal belt. There have been casualties among military personnel on both sides.”
The statement also expressed the desirability of dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan. “We look forward to the resumption of constructive dialogue between… two countries friendly to Russia – including on counterterrorism and regional security issues.”
Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have grown since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, with Islamabad accusing Kabul of sheltering militants responsible for cross-border attacks, particularly from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The Taliban, in turn, has pushed back against Pakistan’s border enforcement measures and cross-border military actions.
