Rubio, G7 Ministers Discuss Global Challenges

Washington (TDI): US Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in a pivotal meeting with the foreign ministers of the G7 nations on Sunday.

Under the weight of pressing global challenges, the gathering aimed to foster collaboration among the world’s most influential economies.

The G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and  high-level representatives of the European Union met on the margins of the Munich Security Conference for the first time under Canada’s 2025 Presidency.

According to the joint G7 Foreign Ministers’ statement, the members exchanged their ideas, focusing on pressing international issues that affect the nations including Russia-Ukraine conflict, Gaza crisis, Haiti, Sudan and the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Secretary Marco Rubio emphasized the importance of united efforts among the US and its partner nations to work towards resolution of Russia-Ukraine war and a peace plan for Ukraine.

The G7 members also discussed the political, security and humanitarian issues in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Iran.

They expressed their commitment to advancing regional peace and stability.

The also also expressed their support for the full implementation of the ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and increased humanitarian aid to Gaza.

They supported the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to achieve a lasting ceasefire.

The G7 members participated in urgent discussions regarding the pressing conflicts and troubling instability affecting various regions worldwide, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

They condemned the ongoing rebel movements, violence, and humanitarian crisis in the DRC and explored potential solutions to address the challenges posed by these groups.

The meeting also discussed the situation of Sudan and Haiti, grappling with political strife and humanitarian crises.

Moreover, the participants addressed the economic collapse and social unrest in Venezuela.

The G7 Foreign Ministers expressed their eagerness to convene in Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada, from March 12 to 14 to engage in constructive dialogue and strengthen international cooperation.
