Islamabad (TDI): The Romanian Embassy in Islamabad celebrated the International Day of the Romanian Blouse (Ziua Universală a Iei), on Tuesday, marking a step towards showcasing the cultural heritage of Romania.
According to a post of the Embassy of Romania in Pakistan on X, the event brought together people of the Romanian community, representatives of diplomatic corps and distinguished Pakistani guests to celebrate and appreciate the culture and tradition of Romania under the same roof.
The celebration included the exhibition of beautiful Romanian blouses, culinary delights and traditional music.

The guests invited there were to wear Romanian blouses and garments. People from all different cultural backgrounds wore these garments and reflected the universal power of folk art to connect people beyond borders.
In the welcoming remarks, Ambassador Dan Stoenescu put emphasis on the importance of the Romanian blouse as a traditional treasure and symbol of unity. He stated that “sharing this tradition in Islamabad celebrates both Romanian identity and friendship with the people of Pakistan and the international community”.
This event adds Pakistan in the list of countries that honor Romanian “ie” as this was the first time International Day of Romanian Blouses was celebrated in Pakistan. This leads to strengthening traditional ties and mutual respect for each other’s culture and heritage.

The International Day of Romanian Blouse is annually celebrated on June 24 to pay tribute to the “ie” which is a cultural and traditional hand-embroidered blouse worn by Romanian women for ages.
The blouse is the identity of Romanian heritage, culture and creativity. Since 2020, “ie” has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.
In 1964, Pakistan and Romania established their official diplomatic relations marking the start of friendship, mutual respect and bilateral cooperation. Over the years both countries have been engaged in various collaborations of mutual interests
