Bucharest (TDI): Interim President of Romania Ilie Bolojan has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to NATO alliance and regional security.
He emphasized the need for a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, during his conversation with NATO Chief, Mark Rutte.
Ilie Bolojan, the Acting President of Romania had a telephone conversation with the NATO Chief, Mark Rutte on Tuesday.
According to the Government of Romania, both leaders discussed the prevailing security situation in the region, including the war in Ukraine, the security situation in Black Sea, and the commitment of the United States to collective security.

The Interim President stated that the NATO remains a key guarantor to Romania’s security, and highlighted Article 5 of NATO Charter as a key deterrent against external threats to allies.
He also highlighted the significance of transatlantic relations, and the military presence of the United States in Europe, which he called “essential for continent’s security.”
Discussing the security situation of Ukraine, the interim President said that there is a “need for a just and lasting peace.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining support for Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, welcomed the increase in defense budget of Romania, and thanked the Interim President on his country’s contributions to NATO.
He also appreciated Romania’s responsible role in maintaining security and stability in the Black Sea region and the Eastern Flank.
NATO and the United States are committed to collective security and preservation of Article 5 of NATO Charter, Secretary General said.
He further outlined the efforts of the United States to ensure lasting peace in Ukraine.
Both the NATO Chief and the interim President of Romania participated in the Leaders Summit on Ukraine in London.
The Summit focused on discussing ways to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, that is in line with the security interests of the European nations.

Ilie Bolojan, in his speech, emphasized the necessity of United States’ support and cooperation for achieving lasting peace in Ukraine and the transatlantic region.

He said, “The security guarantees that can be granted to Ukraine cannot be provided without support from the United States of America. These security guarantees are not only for Ukraine but practically for the entire Eastern Flank, from the Baltic to the Black Sea.”
He also emphasized the need for resumption of talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Trump.
Romania has announced an increase in its defense spending.
On February 28, Interim President, Ilie Bolojan, stated that the political parties of Romania have a consensus on the increase in defense spending, which will also support the defense industry of Romania.
