Bucharest, 1 December 2021 (TDI): The most important Great Union Day or Romania National day is celebrated on the 1st of December. This day is also known as “Ziua Marii Uniri”, 1918 Union Day and Unification Day. In Romania, it’s celebrated as the Union of Transylvania with Romania in 1981.
Geography:
Romania is in southeastern Europe whose capital is Bucharest. It shares its border with Ukraine to the north, Moldovan to the northeast, the Black Sea to the southeast, Bulgaria to the south, Serbia to the southwest, and Hungary to the west.
It has a one-third mountainous and one-third forested landscape, remaining is occupied with hills and plains. Romania is blessed with great topography, geology, climate, and valuable natural resources. Its weather is distinct by four seasons.
History
Initially, Romania was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. The Sultan of the Ottoman Empire permitted the states of Moldavia and Wallachia to unify with Romania in 1862.
In 1878, Treaties San Stefano and Berlin declared Romania’s Independence and Romania got independence from the Ottoman Empire. They announced Prince Charles as King in 1881. The kingdom of Romania united with Transylvania, Crisana, Satmar, Banat, and Maramures along with Moldova and Wallachia on the 1st of December 1918.
King Ferdinand I united the Romanian territories into one undersigning the law on 11 December 1918. Independence Day officially has been celebrated since 1990. The state remained under the rule of Communism from 1948 to 1989 because of Soviet troops’ occupation. Romania joined NATO in 2004 and joined the EU as a member state in 2007.
Government and State
Romania is a government, which is the sovereign, unitary, unbeatable, indivisible national state. The government has the Parliamentary Republic with a semi-presidential regime. They elect the president for the tenure of 5 years.
Titus Corlatean, Romanian former Minister of Justice and of Foreign Affairs, addressed a message on the National Day, “It is an occasion to honor the memory of those who achieved the Great Union of 1 December 1918, and of those who built modern Romania.”
Economy
Romania stands on the rank of 36th in the work economically. Its economy declined by 3.9% in 2020 and it is one of the lowest declines in the European Union (EU). In the first half of 2021, it recovered 6.5% easily. The final GDP ended at 9.2% by the end of 2020.
US Congratulated Romania on its National Day
Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State, US Department of State congratulated Romania on its national day.

He also added,” President Iohannis’s announcement at COP26 that Romania will be one of the first to deploy a small modular reactor based on U.S. technology is a great example of the promise and potential for even greater collaboration between our two nations”
