Islamabad (TDI): Romania’s Ambassador-designate to Pakistan Dr. Dan Stoenescu has said that Romania values Pakistan as a key partner in South Asia and seeks to further strengthen this relationship.
Speaking at the cake-cutting ceremony to mark the 106th National Day celebrations on Wednesday, he said that both Romania and Pakistan were committed to advancing their cooperation within the EU-Pakistan framework and on multilateral platforms like the UN.
Dr. Dan Stoenescu said this year Romania and Pakistan are celebrating sixty years of diplomatic ties and both nations are committed to strengthening their relations in various fields.
He said that that the two countries have nurtured a strong partnership marked by cooperation and mutual respect.
He said Romania celebrated its Great Union, a historical event that laid the foundation for its unity, vision and national identity, adding that the December 1, 1918 event remains a symbol of the country’s determination to overcome difficulties and build a shared future.
The Ambassador-designate said, on December 1, 2024, Romania marked 106 years since the Great Union of 1918, a milestone that continues to shape its identity and global image.
This anniversary not only honours the country’s history but also highlights its commitment to unity, resilience, and global cooperation, he added.
Dr Dan Stoenescu said Romania’s foreign policy was anchored in European and transatlantic democratic values.

As an active NATO member, Romania contributes to Europe’s security, espevcially along the Black Sea and NATO’s Eastern Flank, he said.
Romania also provides steadfast support to Ukraine, helping its nationals and strengthening regional stability, the diplomat maintained.

He also highlighted Romania’s role in the EU, by promoting democratic values and economic development.
