Quaid’s Grandson Nusli Wadia Booked in Mumbai for ‘Forgery’

New Delhi (TDI): Mumbai police have lodged a case against prominent industrialist Nusli Nevil Wadia, 81, the grandson of Pakistan’s founding father Mohammad Ali Jinnah, along with several family members, over allegations of submitting forged documents in a long-running property dispute.

According to Indian media, the First Information Report (FIR) was filed on the orders of a metropolitan magistrate’s court in Borivli, which directed the Bangur Nagar police to act on a complaint from Ferani Hotels Pvt Ltd. Those named in the case include Nusli Wadia, his wife Maureen (78), sons Ness (54) and Jehangir (52), as well as H.J. Bamji (75), K.F. Bharucha, and R.E. Wandewala (65). They face accusations of forgery and cheating.

The dispute stems from a three-decade-old development agreement on a Malad property, originally signed between the Wadias and Ferani Hotels. Under the deal, developer K. Raheja was to construct on the land, while the Wadias were to receive 12 percent of gross sales. Tensions emerged in 2008 over profit-sharing and land management, sparking a series of court battles that have reached both the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court.

Police said the fresh case was registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. Ferani Hotels CEO Mahendra Chande alleged in his complaint that the Wadias submitted fabricated documents to the Bombay High Court back in 2010 during litigation.

Chande told investigators he had first approached Bangur Nagar police in March this year, and later the city’s police commissioner, but an FIR was not filed until the court intervened on September 20.

“We are still going through the complaint and will be able to comment further once we scrutinise the large set of documents involved,” a Bangur Nagar police officer said.
