Chengdu (TDI): Musical and cultural exchanges across China have highlighted the longstanding friendship between China and Pakistan as the two countries mark the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
The Consulate General of Pakistan in Chengdu hosted a reception on September 10 to commemorate the milestone, featuring a special Qawwali performance by Pakistan’s Marifat Sufi Band.
The event also brought together Chinese and Pakistani calligraphy artists, whose works were displayed as part of an exhibition showcasing cultural interaction between the two countries.
Qawwali, a centuries-old devotional musical tradition rooted in South Asian Sufi culture, uses poetry and music to explore themes of love, devotion and spiritual connection. The performance by the Marifat Sufi Band offered guests an introduction to Pakistan’s traditional musical heritage while reinforcing the cultural links between the two countries.
The celebrations continued on September 11 and 12, when the Marifat Sufi Band performed at two events in Sichuan alongside Chinese musicians and artists.

The Pakistani performers presented traditional folk melodies and used music to convey themes of peace and friendship. The performances received a positive response from local audiences and demonstrated how cultural activities can create connections across linguistic and cultural differences.
The events were part of a wider series of activities marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
In Beijing, Pakistani and Chinese performers also came together for the recent Great Wall Concert, featuring Pakistani artists including contemporary Qawwali performer Zain Zohaib.
Held beneath the historic Great Wall, the event combined music and dance performances by artists from both countries.

The participation of Pakistani and Chinese musicians reflected the broader role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening people-to-people ties alongside the longstanding political and economic relationship between Islamabad and Beijing.
