Singapore (TDI): The High Commission of Pakistan in Singapore, in collaboration with Esplanade Theatre, hosted a mesmerizing evening of Qawwali – “At the Feet of the Beloved.”

The cultural event served as a vibrant tribute to the enduring friendship between the two countries; blending music, spirituality, and diplomacy.

Held at the iconic Esplanade venue, the evening drew a diverse and distinguished audience, including members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, cultural figures, the Pakistani diaspora, and local residents.

The strong turnout reflected not only the significance of the anniversary but also the universal appeal of Pakistan’s rich artistic traditions.

Powerful performance by acclaimed Qawwals, Rizwan and Muazzam, nephews of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, took Pakistan’s musical heritage to the Southeast Asian country.

Carrying forward a 700-year-old Sufi musical heritage, the duo delivered soul-stirring renditions that captivated the audience.

Their performance, marked by emotional depth and musical mastery, brought to life the spiritual essence of Qawwali, earning enthusiastic applause throughout the night.

In her address, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Rabia Shafiq, emphasized the cultural and spiritual significance of Qawwali, adding that the art form, deeply rooted in the teachings of Sufi saints, embodies themes of love, unity, and devotion.

“She noted that such cultural traditions serve as a bridge connecting people across cultures and borders, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue to promote cultural understanding and strengthening people-to-people ties with Singapore,” a statement released by the High Commission said.

On the sidelines of the performance, the High Commissioner hosted a reception for diplomats and distinguished guests, providing an opportunity for dialogue and networking in a warm and celebratory atmosphere.

The evening concluded on a high note, leaving attendees with a lasting impression of Pakistan’s vibrant cultural legacy.

More than just a musical event, the Qawwali night stood as a testament to the power of art in fostering international friendship, marking a meaningful chapter in the 60-year relationship between Pakistan and Singapore.
