Qatar (TDI): Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, received the Tipperary International Peace Award 2024-2025 in appreciation and acknowledgment of Qatar’s peace efforts.
The Award was given on 1 July, 2025 at the Great National Ballykisteen Golf Hotel of Tipperary County, Ireland. The award honors and recognizes Qatar’s significant role in mediation.
PM/FM Al Thani, in a post on X, said that he is honored to receive the Award, and that it reflects Qatar’s commitment and its Amir’s leadership in prioritizing peace and principles. “

At the award ceremony, Al Thani said that his country has been a “steady voice for peace” in the world, while expressing “deep humility” and gratitude for this prestigious award.
He also expressed optimism that Qatar will remain a voice of calm and a “partner in peace” to all those who believe that dialogue must triumph over destruction.
Honorary Secretary of Tipperary Peace Convention, Martin Quinn, said the awarding of the prize is a “powerful recognition” of Qatar’s growing influence in global diplomacy. He also highlighted Qatar’s continuous efforts in mediating ceasefire and hostage exchanges between Israel and Gaza.
“In the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, Qatar has worked alongside international partners to negotiate ceasefires, coordinate humanitarian aid, and secure the release of hostages,” Quinn noted.

“Its diplomatic channels are often open to groups that other states refuse to engage with, allowing it to serve as a unique bridge between opposing parties”, he added.
Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland, Dr Jilan Wahba Adbalmajid, also attended the event and acknowledged Qatar’s role in trying to broker a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Tipperary Award was set up in 1984 to promote peace and humanitarian work. The former South African President Nelson Mandela and former President of Ireland Mary McAleese have also received this international award.
