Washington D.C, 8 June 2022 (TDI): The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, and US State Secretary Antony Blinken met in Washington DC to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The main objective of the meeting is to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries, especially in light of the unprecedented challenges facing the world today.
The Qatari official, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in joint press remarks stated that the Qatar delegation’s visit to Washington was a great opportunity to continue the ongoing discussions between the two countries, especially in light of the unprecedented challenges facing the world.
In addition, he also wished the American football team well when they play in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The US Secretary of State welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs’ visit to Washington. He stated that the two countries also talk about issues like regional security, working on developing joint investments, and trade between both sides.
He also described ties between the two peoples as very strong, adding that he looks forward to Qatar hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in the coming few months.
The U.S- Qatar bilateral relationÂ
The United States and Qatar have extensive economic ties. Qatar is considered the largest foreign direct investor and its single largest source of imports from the U.S.
In the IT industry, the United States has developed a robust trade relationship with Qatar, with over 120 US companies operating in the country.
US exports to Qatar increased by 47.7% from 2018 to 2019, totaling $6.5 billion in 2019. Also, the United States is a leading equipment supplier and partner for Qatar’s oil and gas industry.
US companies have played a significant role in the development of the oil and gas sector in Qatar according to the state department of America.
In addition to energy, U.S. companies also performed well in export sales to Qatar’s defense, aviation, ICT, healthcare, food, and engineering/construction sectors.
Qatar and the United States belong to a number of the same international organizations, including the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and World Trade Organization.
