St. Petersburg (TDI): Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi in St. Petersburg on Thursday, reflecting the strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
During the meeting, President Putin conveyed his best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed his anticipation of China’s participation in the upcoming BRICS leaders’ summit, scheduled to be held in Kazan, Russia, next month.
Putin emphasized that Russia and China are continuously deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership, founded on equality and mutual benefit.
He noted the positive momentum in exchanges at all levels and highlighted the smooth progress in various fields of cooperation.
He also expressed Russia’s readiness to take advantage of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries to implement the consensus reached by their respective leaders, align development policies, and elevate bilateral ties to new heights.
Putin appreciated China’s support for Russia’s role as the rotating chair of BRICS and acknowledged the positive outcomes of the recent BRICS meeting of high-ranking security officials and advisors.
He also noted the success of the dialogue between BRICS and Global South countries.
Putin Praises China’s Diplomatic Approach
The Russian president further praised China’s diplomatic approach, which he described as being based on long-term perspectives and focused on the common future of humanity.
He reiterated Russia’s readiness to strengthen coordination with China, unite more Global South countries, and work together to promote multipolarity and an international order based on justice and international law.
Wang Yi conveyed President Xi’s warm greetings to President Putin, reaffirming the deep mutual trust and friendship between China and Russia.

He stated that under the strategic guidance of both leaders, the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership is developing steadily.
Wang noted that China and Russia’s strengthened strategic coordination aligns with the common aspirations of Global South countries and opposes unilateralism and bloc confrontations.
He underscored China’s willingness to maintain strategic communication with Russia, unite like-minded nations, and promote global multipolarity.
Wang highlighted the successful start of the expanded “greater BRICS” cooperation and expressed China’s continued support for Russia in its role as chair of the Kazan Summit.
He emphasized China’s commitment to advancing a multipolar world and promoting inclusive economic globalization, contributing to the creation of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict.

President Putin praised the “Six-Point Consensus” jointly issued by Brazil and China and, reiterating Moscow’s openness to peace talks.
Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to a political resolution to the crisis and its readiness to work with all parties to foster objective and balanced voices in the international community.
Prior to his meeting with Wang Yi, President Putin also held discussions with the heads of delegations attending the BRICS meeting of high-ranking officials responsible for security matters and national security advisors.
