Moscow (TDI): Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated his readiness to assist in resolving the impasse over Iran’s nuclear program, using Moscow’s strong ties with Tehran to help move the stalled negotiations forward.
The Kremlin confirmed the offer on Thursday following a phone conversation between Putin and US President Donald Trump.
As per a statement released by the Kremlin, Putin told Trump that Russia could play a constructive role in encouraging Iran toward a diplomatic solution.
“Our relationship with Tehran is one of close partnership,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. “President Putin expressed Russia’s willingness to use this relationship to contribute positively to the negotiation process.”
President Trump, speaking after the call, noted that the clock was ticking for Iran to make a decision and said both he and Putin agreed that Iran should not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons.

He also revealed that Putin had offered to become personally involved in the process if needed, though he argued that Iran was dragging its feet in the ongoing talks.
While no date was given for any direct involvement by Putin, Peskov confirmed that discussions were ongoing among Moscow, Washington, and Tehran via multiple diplomatic channels. “The president is prepared to step in at the appropriate time,” he added.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday rejected a key demand from Washington, that Iran stop enriching uranium, calling it fundamentally opposed to the nation’s interests.

In his remarks, Khamenei emphasized the country’s commitment to self-sufficiency and reiterated Iran’s guiding principle: “We Can.”
Efforts to revive the nuclear agreement continue, primarily through indirect negotiations. Oman has been playing a central mediating role.
Most recently, an American proposal was relayed to Iranian officials via Omani intermediaries during a weekend meeting involving Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff.
