Moscow (TDI): Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged an immediate end to the conflict in Iran, offering condolences over the high number of civilian casualties amid what he described as “armed Israeli-American aggression,” according to the Kremlin.

In a phone conversation on Friday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Putin expressed sorrow over the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, members of his family, Iranian political and military figures, and many civilians.

The Kremlin said Putin “reaffirmed Russia’s principled stance in favor of an immediate cessation of hostilities, the rejection of force as a method to resolve any issues concerning Iran or the broader Middle East, and a rapid return to diplomatic solutions.”

Putin also noted that he remains in ongoing contact with leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

According to the Kremlin, President Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Russia’s support of the Iranian people in defending their sovereignty and independence, and provided detailed updates on the latest developments in the conflict.

Analysts say that calls for de-escalation by major powers such as Russia may help temper regional tensions, although the situation remains fluid and unpredictable. Diplomatic channels are expected to play a key role in preventing further civilian casualties and averting wider confrontation.

Observers also note that global markets and international relations could be affected by the conflict, with energy supplies, trade routes, and strategic alliances under close scrutiny. Countries in the region and beyond are monitoring developments closely to assess potential impacts on security and economic stability.

The situation underscores the urgent need for dialogue and coordinated international efforts to prevent further escalation.
