Lahore, 9 August 2024 (TDI): Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Friday announced a reward of Rs100 million for star athlete Arshad Nadeem for winning a gold medal in the final of the Javelin Throw event in Paris last night.
“Nadeem has given the nation a gift on the occasion of the Independence Day,” the chief minister said in a statement. She also announced to establishment of “Arshad Nadeem Sports City” in Mian Channu – the athlete’s hometown.
Last night, the Sindh government also announced a reward of Rs50 million for Arshad Nadeem, while the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation vowed to establish “Arshad Nadeem Athletics Academy” in the provincial capital.
Arshad made the whole country proud when he shattered all Olympic records with a 92.97-meter throw to win his first-ever Olympic medal in Paris. He landed two 90-meter-plus throws in his six attempts, breaking his personal-best record of 90.18m, and becoming the only javelin thrower in history to achieve this feat.

First Individual Olympic Gold
This is Pakistan’s first individual gold and fourth overall at the Games since 1948. The country’s last medal came in 1992 when the national hockey team secured a bronze in Barcelona.
Arshad’s gold brings Pakistan’s total Olympic medal count to 11, including four golds, as many bronzes, and three silvers. Of these, only three were won by individual athletes, while the national hockey team claimed the remaining eight, including three golds.
