ISLAMABAD, (TDI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Sania Nishtar has resigned from her seat in the upper house of Parliament on Wednesday.
Nishtar, who previously served as the Special Assistant to then the Prime Minister Imran Khan, submitted her resignation to the Senate Secretariat.
According to local media reports, her decision comes after she accepted a position with an international organization based in Geneva.

Elected as a senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2021 Senate elections, Nishtar is a trained physician.
In 2024, she was appointed as the CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. She has also held key positions in the Pakistani government, including Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, with the status of federal minister, as well as chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Ehsaas Programme.

Moreover, she served in the interim federal cabinet in 2013, focusing on public health, education, and science.
