Cairo, 20 November 2021 (TDI): On Thursday, Prince Charles of Wales and Duchess Camilla of Cornwall arrived in Cairo for a two-day visit. The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Intissar El-Sisi received the dignitaries at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, Cairo.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held diplomatic talks with Prince Charles. The discussion focused on ways to tackle the climate crisis and eradicate extremism from the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The officials also discussed bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in various sectors, particularly health and education.

Similarly, the Duchess of Cornwall held talks with the first lady of Egypt, Intissar El-Sisi. Both exchanged views on women’s empowerment and opportunities. They focused on Cairo’s steps towards expanding women’s role in the government and Egyptian Parliament.
The First Lady also explained Cairo’s efforts through presidential programs and other initiatives to improve the citizens’ standard of living.
In addition, the British royal couple visited the Gaza pyramids and explored the historical sites of ancient Egyptian civilization.
Moreover, the Prince and Duchess also visited the Al-Azhar mosque in Old Cairo where they met with the mosque’s Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb. During the meeting, enhancing religious ties between the two states were discussed.
Many students of Al Azhar were present during the talks along with Prince Charles’s entourage. Following this, the British Royal representatives also took photos at the Mosque’s central courtyard.
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Egypt on Thursday after concluding their visit to Jordan. After 2006, this is the first visit by Prince Charles to the mosque.
