Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, held a telephonic conversation with the President of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Islamabad, 9 August 2022 (TDI): Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, held a telephonic conversation with the President of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.


The Prime Minister of Pakistan made the telephonic call. During the conversation, both leaders discussed various matters of common interest. Reaffirming the close fraternal ties between the two countries, they agreed to work further to enhance bilateral cooperation in different fields.


Condolences on Flood damage

The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the President on the damage caused by the recent floods in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The floods resulted in the loss of precious lives, including Pakistani nationals. Moreover, the Prime Minister offered sympathies to the Emirati brothers who lost their lives.

Furthermore, the UAE President also sympathized with the families who lost lives in floods in Pakistan.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) report, the floods resulted in 434 deaths and injured 605 people in Pakistan. Whereas in UAE, seven Asian expatriates died following recent floods across the country, according to reports of the interior ministry.

Condolences on Helicopter crash 

The UAE President also expressed sympathies and deepest condolences on the sad demise of army personnel in the recent helicopter crash.

The incident happened on 2 August when the helicopter lost contact with air traffic control. The army aviation helicopter was helping with flood relief work in the Balochistan province.

The military declared that the accident had occurred due to bad weather.

On bilateral cooperation:  

Recalling the decisions taken during the visit of the Prime Minister to the UAE in April 2022, the two leaders reviewed the progress. They resolved to strengthen further trade and economic ties, particularly on accelerating cooperation and building partnerships in areas comprising investments, energy, and infrastructure.

Highlighting the generous support extended by the UAE to Pakistan over the years, the Prime Minister welcomed the recent announcement by the UAE to invest US$ 1 billion in various economic and investment sectors in Pakistan.

Pakistan and the UAE enjoy close fraternal ties rooted firmly in common beliefs, shared values, and culture. The UAE is Pakistan’s largest trading partner in the Middle East and a major source of investments and hosts more than 1.6 million Pakistanis.
