Astana, 5 July 2024 (TDI): Prime Minister Shahbaz delivers Pakistan’s statement at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Astana. Astana is hosting the 24th summit of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO on July 3-4.
The summit promises to be a pivotal event. The summit will address key regional issues. It provides a platform for Astana to advocate for dialogue and diplomacy again.
Furthermore, PM Shahbaz had a cordial meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO meeting in Astana on July 3rd.
They exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in multiple areas of mutual interest. They also discussed regional and international issues. It is heartening that ties between Pakistan and Russia are growing and strengthening through a shared desire and mutual resolve of both countries
Today, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kazakhstan’s Astana.
Moreover, he delivered Pakistan’s national statement at today’s SCO Council of Heads of States meeting in Astana.
PM Shahbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the SCO Charter & principles.
Moreover, he conveyed Pakistan’s support for SCO’s expansion and reform. He called for collective action for socioeconomic development, enhanced connectivity, and maintaining peace and security.
During his talk, he also advocated combating terrorism, dealing with climate change, and alleviating poverty. Most importantly, he talked about ensuring the observance of principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the right to self-determination.

Prime Minister Shahbaz called for the resolution of long-standing disputes through UNSC resolutions. He strongly urged for peace in Gaza and peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Pakistan looks forward to welcoming the SCO family at the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad this October.
