Hanoi, 20 November 2021 (TDI): Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chin will leave for Japan to meet his counterpart, Kishida Fumio. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam announced the news, on Friday.

The official visit of Prime Minister will last from 22-25 November, next week. The Premier will be visiting Japan on the invitation of his Japanese counterpart.

The two countries established diplomatic relations 48 years ago, in 1973. They will celebrate Golden Jubilee of their relations, in 2023.

Vietnam’s Ambassador to Japan, Vu Hong Nam commended the win-win relationship among the two countries. He said that the two partners are committed to create a foundation for cooperation. Such relationship will ensure peace and stability in Southeast Asia and beyond.

Japan set up a strategic partnership with Vietnam in 2009. It was the first G7 country to establish such a comprehensive partnership with the Southeast Asian country.

Earlier, the then Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang visited Japan in 2014. The visit upgraded the bilateral relations to a comprehensive partnership.

ASEAN-China Summit

Prime Minister Pham will also attend a Special ASEAN-China Summit on 22 November with other ASEAN and China leaders. The event will commemorate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

The ASEAN-China summit is a virtual conference.  This is because of the prevailing condition of Covid19 Pandemic. The leaders will discuss the opportunities offered to assess ASEAN-China cooperation over the last three decades.

It will also portray major orientations for bilateral ties in the future. China became the full dialogue partner of ASEAN at the 29th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM) in 1996.

Earlier this year, the 24th ASEAN-China Summit was held where both parties decided to uplift the ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
