Mogadishu, 16 August 2022 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abi Barre, received the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed Ahmed Al-Osmani, in his office on Monday.

The meeting addressed the prospects of enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

Agenda of the meeting

The agenda of the meeting was to discuss bilateral relations between both nations. Prime Minister Hamza Abi Barre extended thanks for the UAE’s support to the government of Somalia in all fields.

Ambassador Al-Osmani was pleased with the valuable welcome. The Ambassador said that UAE’s government and leadership are ready to support Somalia in various areas. It includes drought relief, development, security, and economic infrastructure.

The two sides discussed the ongoing efforts to establish peace in Somalia. Both nations look forward to developing cooperation across all fronts and contributing to enhancing regional stability and security.

Both leaders also discussed ways to strengthen and develop relations between UAE and Somalia.

UAE-Somalia Relations

Bilateral relations between both countries are very complex. Both nations are members of the Arab league and engage in close development cooperation.

Relations between both countries have been at their lowest point since 2018. Somalia accused UAE of interfering in its internal matters. However, UAE appears to be reaching out by sending humanitarian assistance as the country faces one of its worst droughts in a decade.

UAE has invested heavily in infrastructure in Somaliland. UAE-owned DP World port operator is running a major port in the area.

Both governments look forward to improving the state of relations and strengthening the ties between the two countries.
