Prime Minister of Pakistan conveys gratitude to UAE

Islamabad, 8 August 2022 (TDI): Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, in a tweet, expressed gratitude to Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, President of United Arab Emirates (UAE) for UAE’s further investments in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister mentioned, “Both brotherly countries are very keen to further strengthen their multifaceted relationship.”

Previous Meetings

In April 2022, the Pakistani Prime Minister during his gulf tour visited UAE and called on President Mohammed Bin Zayed.

The leaders discussed advancing the longstanding relations between the two countries, particularly economic ones. Moreover, they reviewed regional and international issues of mutual interests.

In May 2022, an economic delegation from UAE visited Pakistan and met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Minister highlighted that UAE’s delegation visit to Pakistan during the Eid holidays reflects the keenness of the UAE Government to invest in our state.

Further, he ensured that Pakistan has a keen interest to welcome investments from the Emirati brothers. Moreover, both parties agreed on strengthening economic cooperation in the sectors including trade, infrastructure, energy, petroleum, etc.

Recently, on 3 August 2022, the Finance Minister of Pakistan, Miftah Ismail met with the Ambassador of UAE to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salim Al-Zaabi. They discussed enhancing economic relations.

Pak-UAE Relations

Pakistan and the UAE maintain strong bilateral relations since Pakistan recognized the latter in 1971. They marked the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties and exemplary friendship last year.

The relations among them are driven by ideological affinities, as well as by economic and political cooperation. Pakistan and UAE are closely aligned in promoting regional peace and development.

UAE also ensured its full support to Pakistan to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan, amid the Taliban’s takeover of the country.

Further, the UAE is one of the largest trading partners of Pakistan. In 2021, Pakistan’s Exports to UAE were around US$1.17 Billion.

Moreover, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, both states supported each other by trading essential supplies to tackle those difficult times.
