Urumqi, 20 October 2023 (TDI): Pakistan’s interim Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar recently held a significant meeting in Urumqi with Ma Xingrui, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Party Secretary of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
During this meeting, Prime Minister Kakar underscored the paramount importance of the deep-rooted relationship between Pakistan and China as the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy and a pivotal anchor for regional peace and development.
Reiterating the unwavering commitment of Pakistan to its friendship with China, Prime Minister Kakar expressed his appreciation for the strong personal commitment of the Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
These sentiments highlight the enduring and robust nature of the relationship between the two nations. Prime Minister Kakar also emphasized the specific significance of Xinjiang, which shares geographical, historical, and cultural affinities with Pakistan.
He stressed the importance of deepening linkages between Xinjiang and the neighboring areas of Pakistan in various fields of cooperation, including trade, investment, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
In response, Party Secretary Ma Xingrui expressed Xinjiang’s willingness to explore business and trade opportunities in Pakistan and the facilitation of commercial and people-to-people ties via the Khunjerab-Sost border crossing.
He acknowledged the immense potential to deepen Pakistan-Xinjiang ties in multiple domains. Both sides affirmed their commitment to working together to harness the full potential of cooperation between Xinjiang and the neighboring areas of Pakistan, demonstrating a shared vision for fostering closer and more mutually beneficial ties.
This meeting in Urumqi marks another important chapter in the enduring relationship between Pakistan and China, reaffirming their shared commitment to regional peace, development, and prosperity.
