Washington/Beijing, 29 July 2022 (TDI): US President Joe Biden spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping over the phone on Thursday.

This telephonic conversation on 28th July was arranged at the request of the US president, according to the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Both leaders had a detailed discussion on the issues of common interests. In addition, the Presidents also talked about bilateral relations. This telephonic call between Biden and Xi continued for over two hours.

Official Statements of US and China

The White House released a statement that the call was an effort from the US side to keep close contact with China. Furthermore, the statement says that the purpose of this call was to manage the differences between the two countries.

In addition, the call was aimed at working together where the interests of the US and China coincide.

Biden and Xi Jinping directed their teams to coordinate on different issues, especially climate change and health security.

The issue of Taiwan also came under discussion. After the call, US President Joe Biden informed about this conversation in a tweet.

The Foreign Ministry of China has also released a statement regarding this call.

According to the statement, President Xi remarked that the world is looking toward US and China in this period of turbulence. The US and China should take the responsibility to lead the world towards peace, security, and development.

The Chinese President reiterated that the two countries should maintain and enhance bilateral communications. Moreover, he said that misperceiving the other country will mislead the people of the two nations.

Regarding the global economic situation, President Xi asked Biden to work together to stabilize the supply chains, energy protection, and food security.

This was the fifth conversation between the two leaders since Biden took office.

A physical meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping is also expected. However, the date and location of the meeting have not been finalized yet.
