President’s Cup to Begin from October 3 in Five Cities

Lahore (TDI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday announced that President’s Cup – another 50-over domestic tournament – will begin from October 3 across five cities.

The nine departmental cricket teams will participate in the tournament. The two semifinals of the event will take place on October 13 and 14, while the final will be played on October 16.

The nine teams are divided into two groups. Higher Education Commission (HEC), Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) are placed in Group A.

Eshaal Associates, Ghani Glass, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan Television (PTV) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) are part of Group B.

“All the matches will be played in the daylight with the first ball expected to be bowled at 9.30 am. The venues and start time for the semi-final and final will be announced in due course,” the cricket board said.

A prize pot of Rs7.75 million will be up for grabs as the winner of the tournament will bag PKR5 million while the runners-up will collect Rs2.5 million.

SNGPL, the winners of the previous edition of the President’s Cup, will face Ghani Glass in their opening match of the tournament at Saeed Sports City Bedian, Lahore.

The Group A teams will play their matches in Abbottabad, Islamabad and Rawalpindi while the Group B matches will be played in Faisalabad and Lahore.
