Washington, 17 May 2024(TDI): The presidential Assistant of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of Presidential Administration, Hikmat Hajiyev, holds talks with Secretary of State for Political Affairs John Bass, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Yuri Kim, and Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Labor, and Human Rights Robert Gilchrist.
The meetings cover a wide range of topics including deepening bilateral relations, exploring the different domains of interest, discussing the upcoming COP29 summit, provision of current state regional and global security, and normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In a meeting with Secretary of State for Political Affairs John Bass and presidential Assistant of Azerbaijan, both leaders discussed enhancing the bilateral partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan, shared priorities for regional peace, and the upcoming COP29 conference, according to the State Department.
During the meeting, John Bass emphasized the importance of sustainable and dignified peace in the region and the successful organization of the upcoming COP29 conference.
“Welcomed today Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmat Hajiyev to discuss the bilateral partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan, common priorities, including sustainable and dignified peace in the region and the successful holding of COP29,” John Bass said.
US-Azerbaijan Bilateral relations
The United States established diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan in 1992, following its independence from the Soviet Union.
Together, the two countries work to promote European energy security, expand bilateral trade and investment, and combat terrorism and beyond national boundaries threats.
Moreover, the United States has reaffirmed the strengthening of democracy and promoting economic diversification in Azerbaijan.
The United States strongly supports efforts to pursue a lasting and sustainable political solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which is a controversial boundary between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

US Government assistance to Azerbaijan aims to improve Azerbaijan’s capacity to deal with security threats, increase and diversify economic development, and promote independent institutions and civil society.
