President Zardari Bids Farewell to Outgoing EU Envoy

Islamabad (TDI): President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday hosted the outgoing Head of the European Union Delegation to Pakistan, Dr. Riina Kionka, at Aiwan-e-Sadr, marking the end of her diplomatic tenure in the country.

Welcoming Dr. Kionka, the president emphasized the importance Pakistan places on its comprehensive partnership with the European Union, calling the relationship “vital for regional stability and global security, especially in today’s uncertain world.”

President Zardari noted that the EU remains one of Pakistan’s largest partners in trade and investment, and stressed the potential for even deeper development cooperation, particularly in light of Pakistan’s young population and growing industrial sector.

He expressed hope that Pakistan would continue to benefit from European support in areas such as education, research, and innovation through initiatives like Erasmus Mundus and Horizon Europe.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan, the president highlighted mutual interests in trade, climate action, migration, development, and regional peace as the pillars of a long-term partnership.

President Zardari commended Dr. Kionka for her efforts in enhancing bilateral ties and thanked her for her service.
