Beijing, 17 March 2023 (TDI): The President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, has accepted an invitation from the President of the Russian Federation to embark on a state-level visit to Moscow from March 20th to March 22nd.
This visit marks President Xi Jinping’s first high-level engagement since his third-term appointment, China’s resumption of activity post the COVID-19 restrictions, and the one-year anniversary of the Ukraine-Russia War.

The Kremlin has announced that discussions between Russia and China will take place on further developing their comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation. Notably, several important bilateral documents will also be signed.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson of China, Hua Chunying, has emphasized that China-Russia cooperation is transparent and immune to interference or coercion by any third party.
China-Russia Ties
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson explained about Russia-China ties and said that in recent years, Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin have maintained a close relationship, providing guidance for the sustained growth of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.
He further said that this partnership has set a new model for international relations, characterized by strategic trust, good neighborliness, and cooperation. During President Xi’s upcoming state visit to Russia, he will have discussions with President Putin on bilateral relations, as well as major international and regional issues of mutual interest.
This visit will serve to deepen mutual trust and understanding between China and Russia, and strengthen the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
President Xi’s visit will also boost mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, forming greater synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union. The visit will help both countries achieve their respective development and rejuvenation goals.
Furthermore, the significance and influence of the China-Russia relationship extend beyond bilateral cooperation, as both countries are permanent members of the UN Security Council and major global players.
