-

Shenzhen, 30 June 2024 (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping extended his heartfelt congratulations on Sunday as the monumental Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link officially opened. The link connects the bustling cities of Shenzhen and Zhongshan in southern China’s Guangdong Province.

President Xi, who also serves as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, hailed the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link as a landmark transportation project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area following the successful completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Moreover, He acknowledged the project’s success in overcoming numerous world-class technical challenges and setting multiple world records, highlighting the unwavering determination and hard work of all participants.

“This fully illustrates that Chinese modernization can only be achieved through solid work, as all great causes are accomplished through concrete actions,” President Xi emphasized.

He called for continued efforts to manage and utilize the passage effectively, promoting infrastructure connectivity and aligning rules and mechanisms to foster the development of an integrated market in the Greater Bay Area.

Furthermore, Spanning an impressive 24 kilometers, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link dramatically reduces travel time between Zhongshan and the technology hub of Shenzhen from two hours to approximately 30 minutes. This significant reduction in travel time is expected to enhance economic integration and facilitate smoother transit across the region.

In addition, the construction of the project began in February 2017 and represents a groundbreaking achievement in engineering. It is the world’s first cross-sea cluster project featuring two bridges, two artificial islands, and an underwater tunnel.
