ISLAMABAD, (TDI): The President of Pakistan, Chairman of COMSTECH, Asif Ali Zardari, has reappointed Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary for a second four-year term as the Coordinator General of COMSTECH. Prof. Choudhary has been serving in this role since April 2020.
His reappointment has been positively received by diplomats from OIC member states, vice chancellors, and various stakeholders.
During his first term, Prof. Choudhary initiated numerous projects aimed at enhancing capacity building and socio-economic development among OIC member countries.
COMSTECH, chaired by Pakistan, is the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation).
Established at the Third Islamic Summit in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, in January 1981, COMSTECH comprises representatives from all member states, typically their ministers of science and technology or designated representatives.
The President of Pakistan serves as the chairman, the Prime Minister as the co-chairman, and the Coordinator General acts as the Chief Executive.

Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary is a highly esteemed national meritorious professor and a leading scientist in Pakistan, recognized for his significant contributions to natural products and bioorganic chemistry.
He has authored and edited 76 books, primarily published in the USA and Europe, and has published 1,175 research papers in prestigious international journals.
His work has garnered 40 US patents and has been cited over 41,000 times globally, giving him an h-index of 82. Over 100 national and international scholars have earned their PhD degrees under his supervision.
He holds multiple advanced degrees, including D.Sc., Ph.D., and C. Chem., and has received numerous accolades from the Government of Pakistan, including Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
His achievements also include the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize (2021), ECO Award (2005), Khawarzimi Award (2006), COMSTECH Award (2011), TWAS Young Scientist Award (1994), and Prof. Abdus Salam Prize (1989).

He is a fellow of several prestigious science academies, including the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, Islamic World Academy of Sciences, Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Royal Society of Chemistry, and Chemical Society of Pakistan.
Moreover, he serves as the Vice President of TWAS for South and Central Asia.
Recently, Hunan University of Medicine (HNUM) honored Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary by naming a newly constructed research building after him.
His strategic role in establishing Sino-Pak research centers has been crucial in fostering collaborative projects between Chinese and Pakistani scientists.
